"The Cultural Journey in Healthcare Delivery: Awareness into Action"
The goal of the conference is to provide participants with awareness, knowledge and the tools for taking action in the delivery of quality healthcare in a racially, ethnically and linguistically diverse environment. The target audience are Health and Human Service professionals, Public Health Professionals, Healthcare Delivery Organizations, and Community Leaders.
Sheila L. Thorne, President and CEO of the Multicultural Healthcare Marketing Group is providing the Keynote: “Striving for Cultural Proficiency in Healthcare Delivery – The Journey from Awareness to Action – The Business Case”. Elizabeth Krause, MS from the CT Health Foundation will address: "Opportunities and Limitations of the Philanthropic Role in Eliminating Health Care Disparities". Two panels of speakers will represent program models in our local communities that are successful in reaching our diverse populations. The panelists include Howard Smith, “Community Family Night” from Optimus HC, "Homeless Healthcare" – Rick DeNisco and Aleta Van Valen from SWCHC, Stephanie Paulmeno, "Multicultural Health and Heritage Fairs - Celebrating Community Diversity from Greenwich Health Department, "Integration of Health Literacy into ESL Adult Education" with Michele Maher from the Adult Learning Center in Stamford, "Remodeling Schedules to Respond to the Community" with Brian Langdon from FSW, Marilyn Moore speaking on "The Witness Project", and Sue Feldman from the Hill Health Center "Village of Power".
The "REAL" segment of the conference will highlight individuals from our communities who will talk about their experiences in trying to access care – challenges and successes…
